Innovative Amorphous Nanosheets Crafted from Challenging Metal Oxides and Oxyhydroxides

A team has pioneered a new technique for synthesizing amorphous nanosheets by employing solid-state surfactants. These ultra-thin amorphous nanosheets can now be produced from various kinds of metal oxides and hydroxides. This innovation significantly broadens their applicability across various technologies such as the potential advancement of next-generation fuel cells. Researchers at Nagoya University in Japan

Embrace the Intrigue: Why ‘Conclave’ is a Must-See

What to Watch: Don’t Miss the Pope (or ‘Conclave’)

For great viewing suggestions, I’ll borrow a quote from Madonna: Just like a prayer, you know I’ll take you there.

This leads me to “Conclave,” a new thriller about the papacy that is poised for Oscars (when was the last time you saw one of those?!). While it might not inspire a trip to church, it’s certainly an engaging cinematic experience. Be sure to catch this in theaters and also check out some home streaming options like the Bruce Springsteen documentary available on Hulu and Disney+. Plus, get in the mood for Halloween—horror flicks are enjoyable year-round but are especially fun during this spooky season.

Now, here’s the exciting part:

Experience the Suspense of Ralph Fiennes’ ‘Conclave’

This year, only a few films have really stood out as potential Best Picture candidates for me. One is the fantastic summer release “Sing Sing,” and the other is the debut film “Conclave,” featuring Ralph Fiennes as the highly pressured Catholic cardinal overseeing the selection of a new pope following the pontiff’s sudden death. The cast is exceptional, especially John Lithgow as a ruthless rival, and the film boasts some intriguing twists while combining elements of courtroom drama, mystery, and political tension. Plus, with a PG rating, it is suitable for audiences of all ages. (Check out my ★★★★ star review.)

My friend Marco della Cava interviewed Fiennes about the film, where the actor spoke about his character’s struggle with faith and shared his own experiences as a lapsed Catholic. “At age 13, I rebelled,” says Fiennes, who, despite his distance from the church, remains intrigued by Jesus as a historical figure. “If you strip away all the church doctrine and art, and ask, ‘Who was that guy?’ you find someone who had a message meant to help people lead more purposeful lives.”

Watch the New Bruce Springsteen Documentary ‘Road Diary’ on Hulu and Disney+

If you’re a fan of The Boss, or even just curious about him, you won’t want to miss “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band,” streaming on Hulu. This documentary captures the iconic rock band during their most recent world tour. Our music critic Melissa Ruggieri watched it and highlights how Springsteen concludes each show with “I’ll See You in My Dreams,” a touching reflection on loss and spirituality. She also shares a quote from Springsteen regarding his thought process in creating the band’s set list: “In 25 songs, I aimed to craft a narrative that reveals who I am at this stage of my career.”

This documentary is one of many new titles available on streaming platforms this month. I’ve prepared a convenient guide for various cinematic preferences. There are several films that have just arrived for home viewing, such as M. Night Shyamalan’s “Trap” and “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” along with fresh original streaming content like Netflix’s romantic drama “Lonely Planet” and Amazon’s crime comedy “Brothers.”
