Emily Ratajkowski responds to bystander who told her to ‘put on a shirt’ during a stroll
Don’t spoil Emily Ratajkowski’s fun summer vibes.
The model and writer faced criticism over her outfit choice in a recent public appearance, prompting her to react on social media this Tuesday.
She shared a video from the incident, showcasing her walking down the street in a snug gray tank top paired with black low-rise jeans. Just moments into the video, a man’s voice is heard admonishing her: “Girl, put on a shirt.”
Despite the comment, the host of “High Low with EmRata” appeared unbothered, continuing her walk without engaging with the critique. However, she later edited the video to include a clip from Charli XCX’s energetic song “365,” from the pop star’s latest album, “Brat.”
“Famously not demure, famously not mindful,” Ratajkowski captioned her video, hinting at the “demure” trend popular on TikTok. This term suggests a style that is cute, clean, and considerate, featuring modest clothing choices.
On the other hand, the brat summer vibe leans towards outfits that are daring, vibrant, and sometimes daringly bold, drawing influence from Gen Z’s comeback of Y2K fashion.
Charli describes brat summer outfits as capable of being “luxury or trashy.” There are no hard-and-fast rules about how to dress; being a “brat” is about celebrating one’s uniqueness. Yet, if there were guidelines, they would likely include lots of Von Dutch trucker hats, baby tees, and “strappy white tank tops,” teamed with low-rise shorts or a miniskirt.
Ratajkowski reflected on her journey with female sexuality in the entertainment world in her 2021 publication “My Body.” During a discussion with YSL News, the 33-year-old stated she takes pride in the independence and strength gained from capitalizing on her image in a professional context.
“There are countless aspects and much authority to be cultivated by being a model or a woman who leverages her sexuality and appearance to achieve success,” Ratajkowski noted.
