Eric Braeden, star of soap operas, loses his home of 45 years to wildfires in LA
Eric Braeden is opening up about the loss of his home where he lived for 45 years.
The “Young and the Restless” star shared his heartbreak in a recent segment on “Entertainment Tonight” as wildfires continue to wreak havoc across the greater Los Angeles area.
At 83, Braeden recounted to “ET” co-host Kevin Frazier how he managed to leave his house “just in time.”
“Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy,” he said while surveying the charred remains of his property. “It’s all gone, just look at that.”
Braeden spoke candidly with Frazier about how he felt after the Palisades Fire destroyed his family home.
“I didn’t realize it would affect me so profoundly, man,” Braeden admitted. He mentioned that he was able to save a few cherished belongings before the flames claimed his home in what was once the beautiful Pacific Palisades area.
“I’m heartbroken, man. I’m heartbroken. All the memories are gone. I don’t want my family to witness this,” Braeden shared. “You’ve seen a lot of the news coverage over the past few days, and I never thought this could happen. I just didn’t see it coming.”
Braeden reminisced with Frazier about the nearly five decades of memories in his home, including entertaining large gatherings of up to 250 guests, noting, “You see on TV all these news stories about people losing their homes, and now I truly understand what that means.”
His residence was obliterated by the Palisades Fire, which ignited on Tuesday and has scorched over 21,000 acres, making it the most disastrous fire in Los Angeles history. As of Saturday morning, it was only 11% contained.
Strong winds have exacerbated the wildfires, which have tragically claimed at least 11 lives. Sheriff Robert Luna announced during a press conference on Saturday that over 153,000 residents in Los Angeles County are currently under evacuation orders, with 57,000 properties at risk. An additional 166,000 residents have received evacuation warnings, advising them to prepare to vacate if necessary. Notable individuals like Braeden are among those who have lost their homes in this devastation.
Other celebrities affected include Mandy Moore, Cameron Mathison, Jhené Aiko, Miles Teller, Tina Knowles, Ricki Lake, Billy Crystal, Paris Hilton, Anna Faris, Melissa Rivers, and Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, who have also suffered significant losses.
