‘Inside the NBA’ fans rejoice! Popular show finds new home on ESPN
The beloved TNT show “Inside the NBA,” featuring hosts Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, and Shaquille O’Neal, is not going away after all.
The highly popular NBA program will be relocating to ESPN, thanks to a deal where Warner Bros. Discovery will license “Inside the NBA” to ESPN, according to a source close to the agreement. This individual requested anonymity as they were not authorized to speak publicly about the matter.
In addition to this transition, Warner Bros. Discovery will also broadcast Big 12 football and basketball games that used to be shown on ESPN.
As ESPN and Warner Bros. Discovery finalize their partnership, Warner Bros. Discovery has resolved its lawsuit against the NBA, thereby allowing the company to develop NBA-related content both in North America and internationally while maintaining digital efforts under the Warner Bros. brand, as reported by The Wall Street Journal. This publication also first disclosed that “Inside the NBA” will continue beyond the current season.
After the NBA secured a new 11-year, $76 billion television contract with ABC/ESPN, NBC, and Amazon in July, TNT was not included in that agreement, leading Warner Bros. to sue the NBA for breach of contract.
When TNT lost the rights to show NBA games starting after the 2024-25 season, it seemed that “Inside the NBA” would come to an end as well. However, Johnson expressed his intention to remain with the network, and the show relies heavily on his role in guiding discussions. Barkley mentioned to YSL News Sports last month that even if the four hosts moved to a different network, the show would not retain its essence.
Recognizing the strong fanbase of “Inside the NBA,” ESPN has devised a plan to keep the show alive through this unique agreement.
Further details about the arrangement are anticipated next week.
