Experience Overnight Stays in Glacier Bay National Park on Alaska Cruises

Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve is a highlight for many travelers on Alaska cruises. However, a new set of itineraries will offer extended visits to this breathtaking destination.

While standard cruise ships usually dock for about nine to ten hours, American Cruise Lines will allow passengers to stay overnight during its Alaska voyages in 2025, as announced by the National Park Service.

The cruise line plans to increase its presence in Alaska this year, with its American Constitution ship joining the American Constellation in offering sailings. Both ships are designed to host up to 170 guests.

“With a variety of choices for cruising in Alaska in 2025, American’s vessels and itineraries present a distinctive way to discover this dream destination,” the cruise company stated in a press announcement. “Their offerings stand out as they combine the intimate experience of small-ship expeditions with the luxury and comfort found on larger ships.”

When do the cruises depart?

Cruise departures will occur between May and September.

What can passengers anticipate?

Each itinerary from American Cruise Lines includes extended time at Glacier Bay.

Travelers can choose from five different itineraries, ranging from a nine-day Southeast Alaska Cruise to a 19-day Grand Alaska National Parks adventure. The longer trip, along with a shorter 16-day option, features a week of guided excursions in Denali and Kenai Fjords National Parks as well.

During their time in Glacier Bay, passengers can admire stunning views, including the Fairweather Mountains, and spot wildlife such as sea otters and brown bears. Most cabins come with balconies, where guests can enjoy watching glaciers calving and icebergs floating by. Additionally, a National Park Service ranger and a cultural interpreter from the Huna Tlingit will enrich the experience with insights about the area.

Most trips will arrive in Glacier Bay by 8 a.m. and stay until 1 p.m. the next day. However, some select dates allow for shorter visits from 1 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the following sailings:

  • Southeast Alaska Cruise on American Constitution on May 30, July 20, and Aug. 3
  • Southeast Alaska Cruise on American Constellation on July 15
  • Alaskan Explorer Cruise on American Constellation on July 30 and Aug. 8
  • Alaskan Explorer Cruise on American Constitution on Aug. 17

These abbreviated stops might be extended, so travelers are encouraged to reach out to American Cruise Lines for confirmation on stop durations.

What are the prices for the cruises?

Pricing for the 2025 Alaska itineraries currently begins at $5,800 per person, based on double occupancy, as noted on the company’s website. This rate includes pre-cruise hotel accommodations, onboard meals and beverages, and additional amenities.
