A Unique Mediterranean Cruise Experience: Aurora Expeditions Introduces New Small-Ship Voyages

Aurora Expeditions is well-known for its journeys to extraordinary places such as Antarctica and the Arctic. Starting in 2026, the company plans to provide new journeys that are a little closer to common tourist routes.

The operator is set to introduce a range of small-ship cruises along the Atlantic Coast, the Mediterranean, and Southeast Asia—these marks new territories for the company.

“Adventure can have different meanings for everyone, and we are dedicated to providing our guests with an engaging, informative, and adventurous small-ship experience, regardless of their chosen destination,” said CEO Michael Heath in a message to YSL News. “We are thrilled to bring the ‘Aurora style’ of experiential small-ship cruising to these new regions, offering a fresh perspective.”

The success of their non-polar voyages to destinations like Costa Rica and Scotland “reinforced our belief in broadening our variety of destinations and exploration styles,” Heath noted.

What are the New Routes for Aurora Cruises?

One highlight of the new itineraries is the 13-day cruise titled Moor than a Myth, which travels from Marrakech, Morocco, to Barcelona, Spain. This cruise will stop at locations including Casablanca, Seville, Palma de Mallorca, among others.

Passengers will get to “navigate the winding streets of Morocco’s medinas, admire Moorish architecture, and discover Spanish citadels and Andalusian villages,” according to Aurora’s news release.

The 11-day cruise named The Luck of the Irish will depart from Dublin, Ireland, and will include stops such as Cork and Galway, featuring views of the Cliffs of Moher. Meanwhile, the Myths of the Mediterranean itinerary will span 18 days from Athens, Greece, to Naples, Italy, allowing visitors to explore ports like Mykonos, Santorini, and Dubrovnik in Croatia.

All three cruises will be conducted on the company’s new ship, the Douglas Mawson, which is scheduled to debut next year and accommodate an average of 154 passengers. Both pre- and post-cruise land activities are included. A complete list of itineraries is available on Aurora’s website.

What Experiences Await Guests?

Aurora has exploration at its core, and this essence will carry into its small-ship voyages, even if guests aren’t constantly using Zodiac boats for excursions.

“The specially designed programs will emphasize cultural experiences, culinary adventures, and, of course, educational opportunities led by our knowledgeable onboard storytellers,” Heath explained. “Guests can take part in guided shore excursions to explore ancient cities close to our ports, visit farms and vineyards, and tour iconic sites like the Alhambra in Granada, Spain, or even partake in perfume-making experiences in France.”

Travelers can choose from up to three excursion options at each port of call.

What Are the Costs of the Cruises?

Prices fluctuate depending on the chosen itinerary, sailing date, and other variables. For instance, Aurora’s Mediterranean small-ship cruises currently start at $9,116 per person for double occupancy, while Atlantic Coast voyages begin at $11,196.

Included in the fare are meals, beverages like wine and beer with dinner, Wi-Fi, entrance fees to tourist attractions and historical sites, among other amenities.
