Georgia maintains the top position in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll
The top tier of the US LBM Coaches Poll following Week 4 of college football remains mostly stable this week. However, we can expect changes next week with the first high-profile clash among the top five teams coming up.
Georgia stays at No. 1, securing 35 out of 55 first-place votes this week. The Bulldogs had a bye week to get ready for their upcoming game against No. 4 Alabama, which also had a break this weekend. No. 2 Texas, who won decisively against UL-Monroe on Saturday, narrowed the gap slightly by getting 18 first-place votes. Ohio State, ranked No. 3, received the remaining two first-place votes and will kick off Big Ten play next week against Michigan State.
Mississippi holds strong at No. 5, while Tennessee moves ahead of Oregon to take No. 6, marking five SEC teams in the top six of this week’s poll. However, Missouri slipped from a tie at eighth to No. 11 after needing overtime to defeat Vanderbilt. The top 10 is rounded out by Penn State, Miami (Fla.), and Utah.
Michigan made the biggest jump in this week’s rankings, climbing five spots to No. 12 after defeating Southern California, which dropped four places to No. 16.
Kansas State fell 11 spots to No. 25 after suffering a heavy loss to Brigham Young, who enters the rankings at No. 22. Additionally, Illinois is now ranked No. 21 following their overtime victory against Nebraska.
The Cornhuskers and Memphis are the teams that fell out of the rankings this week.
