The Ravens Lose Game-Winning Touchdown in Dramatic Season Opener Against the Chiefs

Football often comes down to tiny details.

The Baltimore Ravens experienced this firsthand on Thursday night when a crucial touchdown that could have tied the game or even given them a win was overturned because the receiver’s toe was barely out of bounds.

In the game’s final moment, trailing 27-20, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson maneuvered near the 10-yard line and miraculously connected with tight end Isaiah Likely in the back of the end zone just as the game clock expired. This play initially appeared to reduce the score to 27-26, prompting discussions about a potential two-point conversion for a stunning victory.

However, since the play occurred within the last two minutes of the game, it was subject to a review. Upon review, officials determined that Likely’s right toes were just outside the end zone as he caught the ball. Consequently, they ruled it an incomplete pass, allowing the Kansas City Chiefs to secure the win in this thrilling matchup between two top teams in the AFC.

“That was my fault,” Likely said, who finished the game with a leading nine receptions for 111 yards, in the postgame interview. “I need to get both feet in.  I own that.”

Jackson added, “I believed it was a touchdown. I still think it was a touchdown.”
