Young fan lights up after receiving Jose Altuve’s home run bat
Jose Altuve, a star player for the Houston Astros, hit a home run against the Baltimore Orioles, but the real highlight was his interaction with a young fan afterward.
Altuve nailed a two-run homer to right field in the third inning, giving the Astros a 2-1 edge over the Orioles at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. After completing his run around the bases, Altuve picked up his bat and handed it to a young fan. An MLB Network broadcaster noted, “As he walked back through the dugout, Jose was focused on telling (Astros manager) Joe Espada about a young kid who needed to get his bat.”
The lucky fan, named Chris, expressed that getting the bat was the “greatest moment of my life.” He shared how he caught Altuve’s attention, stating that he was cheering for his “idol” right before Altuve’s at-bat.
“When (Altuve) was on deck, I was shouting, ‘If you hit a home run, can I have your bat?’ He hit a home run on the second pitch and then he called me into the dugout to give me the bat. He’s my idol and this is the best moment ever,” Chris excitedly recounted.
Even though Chris was wearing an Orioles cap when he got Altuve’s bat, he clarified, “Jose Altuve has always been my idol,” explaining that he chose Baltimore gear for his recreational league tournament.
“I’m shaking right now,” Chris added, expressing his excitement.
