‘Manhunt escalates for suspect in Brian Thompson murder’
The extensive hunt for the individual accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson has entered its sixth day as of Monday. Authorities in New York have gathered a wealth of video footage and images of the suspect, piecing together a detailed escape timeline, yet they have no known motive and have not made any arrests.
It remains uncertain how long the suspect can evade capture amidst the growing attention the case is receiving. Videos and pictures of the unidentified man have rapidly spread across social media. NYPD divers spent much of the weekend scouring a lake in Central Park, searching for the firearm believed to be used in the crime, which could help lead them to the suspect.
Mary Ellen O’Toole, a former FBI profiler, told CNN she expects law enforcement to close in on the suspect soon.
“I think we’ll know who this individual is in just a few days,” O’Toole mentioned in an interview on Sunday. “He’s completely outnumbered. With so many police officers and FBI agents working this case, they will gather the necessary information to identify him.”
Former NYPD deputy commissioner John Miller shared with CBS News that the suspect gave a crucial hint about his identity while he was at a hostel. He lowered his mask while having a conversation with a woman at the front desk.
“They were having a flirty exchange, and he pulls down his mask to smile. That informal moment is currently the most critical lead in this entire investigation,” Miller stated.
