Iran’s Plot to Target Donald Trump and U.S. Officials: A Chilling Revelation

Iran reportedly plotting to kill Donald Trump and other US officials, sources claim

WASHINGTON − Officials in the U.S. have stated that Iran is actively seeking to assassinate former President Donald Trump and individuals from both his and the current Biden administration. They see this as retaliation for the killing of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani and various aggressive policies, officials and lawmakers discussed on Wednesday.

This information follows Trump’s alarming announcement on Tuesday night when he revealed that he had been informed by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence about “actual and specific threats” from Tehran against him.

Sen. Mike Rounds, a Republican from South Dakota and member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, indicated that he had not found proof linking Iran to two alleged assassination plots against Trump. One of these incidents resulted in violence at a Pennsylvania campaign rally in July.

While he couldn’t confirm direct involvement, Rounds remarked, “It is evident that Iran has made it clear—they would attempt to assassinate the former president if the opportunity arose.” He added, “They have also mentioned their intention to target other high-ranking officials.”

Sean Savett, a spokesperson for the National Security Council, supported the claim about the Iranian threats.

He stated, “We have been monitoring threats from Iran against former President Trump and other officials from his administration for years, which dates back to the last administration. These threats stem from Iran’s quest for revenge following the death of General Soleimani,” who died in a drone strike in 2020, ordered by Trump.

While Iran has denied plotting attacks on U.S. officials, the Justice Department is investigating various attempts, including plots against former National Security Advisor John Bolton. Since Soleimani’s assassination, U.S. officials have been cautioning about Iran’s intentions for revenge.

Trump himself acknowledged the severity of the situation on Wednesday through a post on X, which had attracted nearly 20 million views by midday.

He wrote, “Iran has made significant threats against my life. The entire U.S. Military is alert and ready. Previous attempts by Iran have failed, but they will inevitably try again.” He continued, “This is a concerning situation for all involved. I am surrounded by more security personnel and weaponry than I’ve ever seen before.”

In his post, Trump expressed gratitude to Congress for its unanimous decision to allocate extra funds to the Secret Service for his protection detail. “It’s great to see bipartisanship on this issue,” he remarked, “Attacking a former president is a recipe for disaster for the assailant!”

Sen. Marco Rubio, the leading Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee, told YSL News, “The Trump campaign has indicated they have been informed of a credible and specific threat, which they are right to take seriously.”

This alert comes about six weeks after the Justice Department charged a Pakistani man linked to Iran over an alleged scheme to assassinate a U.S. official, thought to be in retaliation for Soleimani’s killing. In July, multiple reports indicated that the Secret Service increased Trump’s security due to fears of an Iranian plot.

A spokesperson from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence acknowledged that Trump received a briefing but did not provide any specifics. The Trump campaign spokesperson shared limited information.

As of Wednesday, it remained uncertain what triggered the recent briefing for Trump and what details were conveyed to him, particularly if prior concerns had intensified due to new intelligence findings.

Neither Trump’s campaign nor the ODNI officials offered further comments on Wednesday.

However, Secretary of State Antony Blinken informed NBC News Wednesday morning that the government is monitoring “an ongoing threat from Iran aimed at numerous senior officials, including former officials like President Trump and some members of the current administration.”

Rubio characterized the Iranian regime’s interest in assassinating Trump as “the most significant foreign threat to an American leader in our history,” referencing a video released by Iran in January 2022 that depicted the killing of Trump on a golf course as revenge for Soleimani’s assassination.

He suggested it could be “the most alarming instance of electoral interference we have ever encountered.”

Mark Warner, the Democratic chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, did not confirm if he was specifically briefed about the Trump campaign’s claims; however, he did indicate that the FBI regularly updates his committee about Iranian threats towards the former president.

“The Iranian regime continues to pursue revenge against current and former officials in light of Soleimani’s death,” he stated.

He expressed, “death.”

Following the incident where Trump was shot and injured in his right ear during a campaign rally on July 13, the White House acknowledged the existence of a significant threat from Iran directed at him.
