Jay-Z demands that his rape accuser reveal her identity, confirms he has anonymously filed a lawsuit against her lawyer
Jay-Z is calling for the woman who has accused him of rape to disclose her identity, or he wants her lawsuit against him to be dismissed.
An attorney representing Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, made this request on Monday, just a day after the anonymous accuser claimed that Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs drugged and assaulted her back in 2000 when she was only 13 years old.
The legal filing stated, “Mr. Carter should not have to defend himself in such a public manner against an accuser who remains completely hidden while making allegations that supposedly took place in public with witnesses who could deny the plaintiff’s claims if only her identity were known.”
The filing further stated, “Mr. Carter has the right to know who is making these serious accusations against him in a sensational and self-promoting manner, seeking substantial financial compensation and damaging a hard-earned reputation built over decades.”
Jay-Z’s motion also portrayed the rape allegations as part of an “extortion effort” led by Tony Buzbee, the attorney representing the anonymous plaintiff. He claimed this “extortion plan” is intended to coerce the rapper into paying a “staggering” amount of money.
“Make no mistake, this case is about retaliation against the rare individual who refused to pay,” the document read.
Buzbee responded to YSL News in an email on Monday, stating he “can’t and won’t address every court filing” but noted, “A simple demand cannot be labeled extortion or blackmail. Such accusations are foolish and careless.”
Jay-Z identified as the anonymous celebrity suing lawyer Tony Buzbee and insists Jane Doe should be identified
The filing on Monday revealed that Jay-Z is the celebrity whose legal team filed a lawsuit against Buzbee in November, accusing him of extortion. Jay-Z claims this lawsuit was intended to “unmask attorney Buzbee’s latest extortion plot,” asserting the rape accusations were subsequently made against him in a “clear act of retaliation,” according to his lawyer.
The woman initially filed a lawsuit against Sean “Diddy” Combs in October. In her claim, she accused him and an unnamed celebrity of assault. An amended lawsuit revealed that this previously unidentified celebrity was, in fact, Jay-Z.
According to Jane Doe, she attended an after-party following the MTV Video Music Awards in 2000, where she went to a bedroom to rest after allegedly being drugged. The accusation states that Jay-Z raped her while Combs and another unidentified female celebrity witnessed the incident.
“For years, Combs has acted in this manner without repercussions,” the lawsuit stated. “He thinks he is above the law. He is not. His close friend Shawn Carter has been present during many such occasions. … Both individuals must be held accountable.”
In the motion filed Monday, Jay-Z’s attorney contended that Jane Doe’s wish to remain anonymous contradicts Buzbee’s actions, which have sought to “garner significant attention” for her case, including sharing details on social media.
In a strong statement released on Sunday, Jay-Z firmly denied the allegations and accused Buzbee of attempting to blackmail him.
“You have made a serious misjudgment in believing that all ‘celebrities’ are the same,” he addressed Buzbee. “I come from a different world. I grew up in the projects of Brooklyn. We don’t engage in these types of antics. We maintain strict codes and honor.”
In an X post on Sunday, Buzbee mentioned that his firm had sent a “demand letter” to Jay-Z’s lawyer on behalf of the alleged victim, but that the woman “never sought any money from him,” only aiming for “private mediation.”
“Since I sent that letter on her behalf, Mr. Carter has not only filed a lawsuit against me but has also attempted to intimidate and harass me and this plaintiff,” the attorney stated. “His actions have had the opposite effect. She feels empowered. I take great pride in her determination.”
