Kirk Herbstreit Calls Out LSU Fans for Unsportsmanlike Behavior During Alabama Showdown: “This Has to Stop!”

Kirk Herbstreit criticizes LSU fans for throwing trash against Alabama: ‘That’s enough, clowns’

Kirk Herbstreit is fed up with fans throwing trash onto the field as a protest against referee decisions.

The ABC commentator expressed his disapproval after LSU fans littered the field at Tiger Stadium during the game on Saturday, where No. 11 Alabama faced No. 13 LSU in Baton Rouge.

This happened after LSU seemed to have sacked Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe on a crucial third-and-8, potentially allowing LSU to reclaim the ball while trailing 21-6 in the third quarter. However, a facemask penalty on Sai’vion Jones overturned the sack, granting Alabama a 15-yard penalty and an automatic first down.

Following the replay, which showed that the facemask call was questionable, disgruntled LSU fans began throwing trash onto the field. This marks the second instance this season of fans disrupting a game in this manner; Texas fans did the same during their game against Georgia on October 19, which surprisingly saw Herbstreit and Chris Fowler commentating as well.

“Why is this becoming a trend this year?” Herbstreit commented. “Some fools did this at Texas, and now it’s happening elsewhere in college football. Enough is enough, it’s ridiculous. What are you thinking? This is just absurd.”

During the broadcast, viewers also saw LSU cheerleaders shielding themselves from the debris with signs.

“It’s just embarrassing,” Herbstreit said. “Those are your home cheerleaders. This reflects poorly on LSU and college football as a whole. It’s disappointing to see this happening across the country.”

Fowler mentioned during the telecast that Texas faced a hefty fine of $250,000 for a similar incident, suggesting LSU might face similar consequences from the SEC.
