The NBA announced on Friday that the games scheduled for Saturday, including the San Antonio Spurs vs. Los Angeles Lakers in Los Angeles and the Charlotte Hornets vs. Los Angeles Clippers in Inglewood, California, are postponed due to the ongoing wildfires affecting the region.

The league stated, “The NBA, along with the Clippers and Lakers, have been in close communication with local officials regarding the current situation in Los Angeles. The postponements will help ensure that no resources are taken away from addressing the wildfire crisis.”

The Lakers’ game against Charlotte, which was set for Thursday, has also been postponed.

The NBA and the National Basketball Players Association are contributing $1 million to organizations such as the American Red Cross and World Central Kitchen to assist those impacted by the wildfires and are collaborating with the Lakers and Clippers to explore options for long-term support and recovery efforts.

Clippers superstar Kawhi Leonard has taken time off from the team to support his evacuated family, while Lakers coach JJ Redick shared that the house he was renting was destroyed by the fires.

Reflecting on the devastation, Redick told reporters, “What I witnessed was beyond my expectations. It’s total devastation and ruin. I went through most of the area, and everything is gone. It’s something you can never be truly ready for. Our house, which we were renting for a year as we searched for a long-term home, is gone, along with almost two decades of memories as a couple and a decade of parenting.”
