Opinion: Laura Loomer, an ally of Trump, makes repugnant homophobic remarks about Pete Buttigieg
While I wish the Trump campaign would condemn Loomer’s homophobic remarks, it would be as useful as trying to spit into a fan.
Each day seems to bring a new abhorrent incident from Donald Trump’s campaign, and Thursday was no exception.
Laura Loomer, a devoted supporter of Trump known for her extreme conspiracy theories and provocative social media posts, made incredibly homophobic comments about U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. She questioned Buttigieg’s fatherhood simply because he and his husband adopted twins.
“Homosexual men cannot give birth,” Loomer stated. “Gay men can’t carry a child or produce breast milk. You’re not a genuine father.”
She also claimed: “You had a baby in a biological woman’s womb and pretended to breastfeed with fake nipples in a hospital bed like a lunatic.”
‘Is this the kind of person we want shaping child care policy?’
Buttigieg and his husband Chasten adopted twins back in 2021 without a surrogate, and the breastfeeding comment is based on a manipulated image that has been thoroughly debunked—typical of the misleading claims Loomer often spreads.
Loomer’s outburst came after Buttigieg’s response to Trump’s ludicrous claim of being “the father of IVF,” despite his administration’s efforts to undermine reproductive rights like Roe v. Wade and IVF.
Chasten Buttigieg responded to Loomer’s hateful remarks by asking: “Is this the kind of person we want in the White House shaping policy on child care or education? … Loomer clearly opposes adoption and LGBTQ rights. Let them continue their strange brand of bigotry while we work on building connections with people.”
Loomer attacks Pete Buttigieg’s spouse, calling him ‘a freak’
In true fashion for those in Trump’s circle, Loomer responded with even more vitriol and falsehoods. She claimed to be indifferent about the couple’s sexuality but then repeated the lie that they promote untrue science by suggesting that men can breastfeed. She labeled them “freaks” with no rightful place in the White House.
Trump has expressed admiration for Loomer, who proudly identifies as “a proud Islamophobe” and has propagated 9/11 conspiracy theories. Last year, Trump referred to her as “very special” and acknowledged her support.
He even considered having her join his campaign, and she recently accompanied him on his flight to a debate against Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. Following that, she attended a 9/11 memorial with Trump.
Trump appreciates Loomer for her loyalty, while she benefits from his fame and provides a platform for her extremist views.
Will Trump denounce Loomer’s hate speech? Absolutely not.
I could urge the Trump campaign to condemn Loomer’s hateful tirade, but that would be as effective as trying to spit into a fan. At best, they would claim she is not officially part of the campaign, which, while technically correct, is meaningless because she is someone Trump willingly associates with.
Trump’s words provide ample material for evaluation. As the election approaches, it’s also important to consider the individuals he associates with.
Loomer is a despicable bigot who has recently targeted a well-known gay couple with false and homophobic accusations, labeling them as psychopaths and questioning their legitimacy as fathers.
It’s noteworthy that Loomer is a friend of Donald Trump, which should be a significant concern.
