Boeing strike concludes as machinists approve contract offering 38% salary boost

Machinists at Boeing have voted in favor of the company’s most recent contract proposal, bringing an end to the strike that started on September 13.

This new contract includes a 38% salary increase over a span of four years, a $12,000 bonus for ratifying the contract, and an improved 401(k) contribution match. Prior contract offers were turned down by the striking workers.

The union representing the machinists supported this contract version and urged its members to back it.

“In every negotiation and strike, there comes a time when we have gained all we can through bargaining and withholding labor. We have reached that point now and face the risk of potentially receiving a worse offer in the future,” stated the union.

The ongoing strike has significantly impacted Boeing’s finances, disrupting the production lines for the 737, 767, and 777 models at its facilities in the Seattle area. Additionally, the strike has been linked to a poor jobs report for October, where the U.S. economy saw the creation of only 12,000 jobs, approximately 10% of economists’ expectations.

Boeing continues to face challenges regarding customer trust due to delivery delays and increased regulatory scrutiny, which have affected its reputation among airlines and the public.
