Duchess Meghan expresses grief over the loss of her rescue dog Guy: ‘I’ve shed an unimaginable number of tears’
Duchess Meghan is heartbroken over the passing of her pet dog.
On Tuesday, the British royal shared a heartfelt message on Instagram announcing the death of her cherished rescue dog, Guy the beagle.
“In 2015, I rescued a beagle from a shelter in Canada. He was at a kill shelter in Kentucky and had only days left to live. I rescued him and fell in love,” Meghan wrote next to a video montage featuring her and Guy.
The Duchess named her furry friend Guy because he was affectionately known as “the little guy,” due to his “small and fragile” stature upon being rescued. She noted: “He was the best friend any girl could ever want.”
“He was by my side through everything: during my time on Suits, when I got engaged, then married, and as I became a mom. he was there for all the moments: the quiet, the chaos, the peace, the comfort,” Meghan expressed.
She added, “I’ve cried so many tears, the kind that make you think a shower will wash them away, hoping it will somehow lessen the pain. But they’re there, and that’s okay too.”
In 2018, Guy became a star himself when he was featured in the picture book “His Royal Dogness, Guy the Beagle,” written by Camille March and Michael Brumm, with illustrations by EG Keller.
Duchess Meghan, who recently announced her Netflix lifestyle series “With Love, Meghan,” hinted that Guy will be part of the show. “I hope you’ll see why I am so heartbroken over his loss. You may grow to love him as well,” she mentioned.
Guy isn’t the only dog that has captured Duchess Meghan’s heart. In August 2022, she and Prince Harry welcomed Mia, a beagle who endured severe abuse at a breeding facility in Virginia.
“Thank you for all the years of unconditional love, my sweet Guy,” Meghan concluded. “You enriched my life in ways you’ll never know ❤️🩹”
