As she prepares to return as first lady, Melania Trump discusses her ornament line years after previously criticizing Christmas decorations.
Melania Trump, the incoming first lady, seems to be embracing the holiday spirit as she looks forward to returning to the White House.
In an appearance on “Fox & Friends,” Trump highlighted her Christmas ornament collection while discussing her and her husband’s move back to the White House. She described the ornaments as “very patriotic,” despite facing criticism due to leaked recordings from 2018, where she expressed her frustrations with handling the White House holiday decor.
“This is my third season designing these ornaments, and they hold special meaning,” Trump stated.
She emphasized the patriotic theme of her ornaments, featuring pieces like the $90 “USA Star” and the $75 “Vote Liberty.”
“As you can see, the color scheme is entirely red, white, and blue. That was my inspiration,” she explained during the segment. “They’re perfect gifts and delightful collectibles. Truly beautiful decorations.”
What Melania Trump revealed in the 2018 recordings?
Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, author of “Melania and Me,” recorded conversations with Trump in the summer of 2018 after Wolkoff ended her role as an advisor. These tapes, made public by CNN in 2020, captured Trump expressing dissatisfaction with her duties of Christmas decorating at the White House.
“I’m putting in so much effort into the Christmas stuff, but honestly, who even cares about the decorations? Yet, I still have to do it, right?” Trump was recorded saying.
In addition to expressing her frustrations over the Christmas preparations, Trump lamented about how the media depicted various pressing matters, including her husband’s controversial child separation policy.
“Then I follow through and say I’m focused on Christmas and planning for it,” she added. “And the media says, ‘What about the children who are separated?’ It’s maddening!”

In a response from 2020, Stephanie Grisham, the first lady’s press secretary, addressed the recordings made by Wolkoff.
“Her only aim was to secretly tape the first lady to promote herself and her scandalous book,” the statement claimed. “There’s no way to confirm whether these recordings were altered, and it’s obvious that the clips were selectively chosen, presented without context. The first lady remains devoted to her family and serving our nation.”
