Michelle Obama Commends Gus Walz for Emotional Display During Dad’s DNC Speech

CHICAGO — Michelle Obama, the former First Lady, stands firmly against bullying, especially when it involves showing affection.

In response to a wave of negative comments directed at Tim Walz’s son, Obama took to social media to support Gus Walz.

While his father was giving a speech, 17-year-old Gus was overcome with emotion as he spoke about their family’s challenges with trying to conceive.

“Hope, Gus and Gwen, you are my whole world. And I love you,” Walz stated.

Gus was seen crying as he listened to his dad, whispering “I love you, Dad!”

“That’s my dad!” he exclaimed, gesturing towards him.

Gus has ADHD, along with a learning disorder and anxiety. Many internet users quickly came to his defense, applauding his openness and love for his father.

Obama expressed her admiration as well, stating that she was moved by the moment.

“Let’s foster a society that values warmth and vulnerability, instead of ridiculing it. We could all learn from Gus’s example,” she posted on X.

During her eight years in the White House, Obama advocated for initiatives to combat bullying.
