Napheesa Collier Shines with Record Performance in Women’s Basketball League

MEDLEY, Fla. — Napheesa Collier, not only a co-founder of the Unrivaled league, is also excelling as a player.

In a stunning performance, Collier scored a record 37 points and secured 18 rebounds, leading the Lunar Owls to a decisive 82-58 victory over the Phantom during their second game of the night at Wayfair Arena.

“We come in, wanting to win,” Collier stated in a postgame discussion.

As the top scorer in the Unrivaled league, Collier boasts an impressive average of 31.7 points per game after three matches. She netted 27 points in the opener, followed by 31 in last week’s second game. She is also grabbing an average of 11.7 rebounds, just behind league co-founder Breanna Stewart, who averages 11.8.

“She’s an Olympian. She exerts her influence,” noted Brittney Griner, who played alongside Collier in the Olympic 5-on-5 teams in Tokyo and Paris.

“Wherever she goes, she’s constantly making plays. She’s elevating her teammates’ game. She’s a pro. When facing someone like that, your goal is to make things difficult for her. Looking at tonight’s stats, I know I could have done a much better job,” Griner added.

Allisha Gray contributed significantly, hitting the game-winning shot to end with 21 points, while Skylar Diggins-Smith scored 16 points for the Lunar Owls, who now have a perfect record of 3-0.

The Lunar Owls are set to face the Vinyl (2-1) again on Monday night, while the Rose (1-2) will play against the Laces (3-0) to wrap up the second weekend of the women’s 3-on-3 basketball league.

For the Phantom, Satou Sabally led the scoring with 19 points, while Natisha Hiedeman contributed 18 points, and Griner notched 10 points and five rebounds. After their first game win on Friday, the Phantom currently holds a record of 1-3.

Azurá Stevens also contributed 16 points and seven rebounds, while Gray added seven rebounds and six assists in the Rose’s first win of their Unrivaled season.

“We needed to win. It was essential to get it done,” Gray expressed postgame.
