Roman Polanski has reached a settlement concerning an underage rape allegation that was planned to go to trial in the following year.

This civil lawsuit was initially lodged in Los Angeles County Superior Court in June 2023. However, the plaintiff’s lawyer, Gloria Allred, informed YSL News on Wednesday that the director, now aged 91, settled the case during the summer. The trial was originally slated to start in August 2025.

Allred stated, “The parties have mutually agreed upon a settlement that satisfies their respective claims.” Polanski’s attorney, Alexander Rufus-Isaacs, provided a similar comment to Agence France-Presse as reported by The Guardian.

YSL News has sought a response from Rufus-Isaacs.

The accuser sought a mixture of “non-economic” and “special” damages as compensation for her claims, which included “lost earnings from past, present, and future, along with economic damages and other expenses,” according to the lawsuit.

“It took me a significant amount of time to decide to pursue this lawsuit against Mr. Polanski, but I ultimately made the determination,” the woman said during a press conference in March, as reported by the AP. “I want to file it to seek justice and accountability.”

The trial was set to focus on a purported incident from 1973. According to the lawsuit, the woman claimed that after meeting Polanski at a party, they went out for dinner together. Although her exact age during these interactions is not mentioned in the complaint, it indicates she was “a minor.”

The woman stated that she first visited Polanski at his home in Benedict Canyon, Los Angeles. Allegedly, he served her two shots of tequila there. When they arrived at the restaurant for dinner, their table was not ready, prompting them to sit at the bar where Polanski supposedly ordered more tequila for her. The lawsuit claims she was driven back to his house after becoming ill from the tequila. She later reported being taken to Polanski’s bedroom and losing consciousness on his bed.

She further alleges in the lawsuit that she awoke in Polanski’s bed with him beside her. He purportedly expressed his desire to have sex with her, to which she objected, but he then undressed her and raped her, according to the claims made in the lawsuit.

In 1977, Polanski faced accusations of unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl and pled guilty to one count.

Following his guilty plea, Polanski was on the verge of sentencing when he fled the country in 1978, claiming the presiding judge intended to impose a severe sentence contradictory to a plea agreement.

Efforts to extradite him from various European countries have been unsuccessful multiple times. He won an Oscar in 2003 but has been unable to return to the U.S. since his departure due to extradition treaties. He primarily resides in France, along with Switzerland and Poland, where he was born.
