Ravens Triumph Over Steelers in NFL Playoffs

BALTIMORE – During earlier games this season, Mike Tomlin showed his admiration by calling Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson “Mr. Jackson.”

Facing a 21-0 deficit at halftime, reporters asked Tomlin how the Steelers could contain the two-time MVP.

<p“It’s Lamar, man,” Tomlin replied to Amazon’s Kaylee Hartung during halftime.

Just a reminder, “Mr. Jackson” to you, Mr. Tomlin.

In a competitive AFC wild-card game, the Ravens defeated the Steelers 28-14 at M&T Bank Stadium. The Ravens now await the result of the Denver Broncos-Buffalo Bills game to know their next opponent, while the Steelers conclude their season having lost five straight games without ever taking the lead.

The Ravens’ defense was tough on quarterback Russell Wilson, sacking him four times. Wilson ended the game with a 20-for-29 record, throwing for 270 yards and two touchdowns, marking his fifth loss in six playoff games since leaving the Seattle Seahawks.

Derrick Henry shone with two touchdowns, rushing for a record-setting 186 yards on 26 carries for the franchise. In his Ravens playoff debut, Henry matched Hall of Famer Terrell Davis’ count of four playoff games with over 150 rushing yards. He set the tone with a powerful 34-yard run into the end zone, following a direct snap from the Wildcat formation.

Jackson, recently named an Associated Press first-team All-Pro, displayed why he is in contention for a second consecutive MVP award, improving his starter playoff record to 3-4. The crowd erupted into “MVP!” chants as he connected with Rashod Bateman for the game’s opening score on a third-and-13 play from the 15-yard line in the first quarter.

By the time the Ravens had their second touchdown, both Henry and Jackson had carried the ball 11 times, gaining 92 yards and 64 yards, respectively. The Ravens secured 14 first downs before the Steelers managed to get their second. Pittsburgh controlled the ball for just 9:33 during the first half.

At the end of the first half, the Ravens executed a 90-yard drive in just 1:51, with Jackson dodging a sack, holding onto the ball for nearly 7 seconds, and passing to running back Justice Hill for a touchdown with just two seconds left. Jackson concluded the half completing 13 of 15 passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns.

In the first half, the Ravens outperformed the Steelers with 308 yards compared to their 59 yards.

Despite not having their top wide receiver Zay Flowers due to a knee injury, the Ravens thrived as Henry bulldozed through the Steelers’ defense and Jackson cleverly evaded them.

Steelers wide receiver George Pickens recorded five catches for 87 yards but faced a crucial offensive pass interference penalty earlier in the game. He caught a 36-yard touchdown in the third quarter, narrowing the score to 28-14.
