The Boston Red Sox are bringing back 44-year-old left-handed pitcher Rich Hill, as reported by various media sources on Tuesday.

Hill signed a minor league contract on August 15 and has since made one two-inning appearance without allowing any runs at Triple-A Worcester.

Throughout his career, Hill has played for 13 different MLB teams since starting in the league back in 2005, including three different terms with the Red Sox, his hometown team.

Once he is activated on the roster, Hill will become the oldest active player in the majors, surpassing 41-year-old Justin Verlander.

His most recent major league action was in 2023, where he played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres, finishing the season with a record of 8-14 and a 5.41 ERA over 32 games (27 of which were starts).

Across his career, Hill has amassed a record of 90-73 and a 4.01 ERA over 382 games (248 starts), representing teams such as the Chicago Cubs (2005-08), Baltimore Orioles (2009), Red Sox (2010-12, 2015, 2022), Cleveland Guardians (2013), Los Angeles Angels (2014), New York Yankees (2014), Oakland Athletics (2016), Los Angeles Dodgers (2016-19), Minnesota Twins (2020), Tampa Bay Rays (2021), New York Mets (2021), Pirates (2023), and Padres (2023).

To make room for Hill, the Red Sox have sent pitcher Josh Winckowski to the minor leagues. Winckowski, aged 26, has a record of 4-1 and a 4.37 ERA in 30 games (six starts) this season.
