Ryan Seacrest takes a tumble after an excited ‘Wheel of Fortune’ contestant knocks him over
Being the host of “Wheel of Fortune” isn’t just about handing out prizes and delivering witty remarks.
Ryan Seacrest found this out firsthand on Tuesday when an enthusiastic contestant accidentally knocked him down during a joyful moment.
Contestant Daniel Thomas was so thrilled after solving a particularly tricky puzzle that in his excitement, he ended up tackling Seacrest.
“Wheel of Fortune,” known for its lively contestants and energetic atmosphere, often contrasts with the more subdued approach of “Jeopardy!”
Thomas fully embraced the vibrant spirit of the show as he approached the small wheel to tackle the famously challenging bonus round.
Faced with the clue “Living Things,” which had seven blanks, he only had the letters “E” and “S” revealed at the end by co-host Vanna White.
Adding his own letters, Thomas guessed “G” for a consonant and then had a brief 10 seconds to shout out the answer.
To his astonishment, he successfully exclaimed “guppies” just before time expired, resulting in a celebratory hug with Seacrest that caused the host to fall backward.
“I’m fine. I’m fine,” Seacrest said as he got back up, showing a golden card with a $40,000 prize awarded to Thomas, bringing his total winnings to $71,950.
Seacrest humorously backed away from Thomas, pretending to be apprehensive as the celebrations continued. “Are you OK? I’m so sorry,” Thomas asked.
“How did you manage that at the last second?” Seacrest inquired, to which Thomas cleverly replied, “Push you over or solve the puzzle?”
The incident was clearly light-hearted for Seacrest, who has recently settled into his role as the host of the show. He took on this position late last year after longtime host Pat Sajak announced his retirement.
Sajak had hosted alongside letter-turner White for 40 years. Interestingly, Sajak himself started as a replacement host, taking over from Chuck Woolery, who ran the show from 1975 to 1981.
“I understand how important it is for ‘Wheel’ to have been part of your homes for the past 40 years, and I’m truly thankful to be welcomed here. I also recognize I have some very big shoes to fill,” Seacrest shared with audiences on his first night as host.
