Selena Gomez’s Fundraiser: Benny Blanco Goes Big, Karol G Raises the Energy

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Selena Gomez launched her Rare Impact Fund four years ago, inspired by memories of “some of my darkest days.” At a benefit auction on Thursday evening, her charitable efforts received a significant boost from her boyfriend Benny Blanco, along with performances by Karol G and Teddy Swims, and host Billy Crudup, who encouraged key figures in the entertainment industry to generously contribute to the cause.

During the second annual Rare Impact Fund Benefit: A Night of Radiance & Reflection at Los Angeles’ Nya Studios West, Gomez checked on her guests to ensure they were relaxed and ready to donate after enjoying drinks from the open bar and treats from various sponsors.

“You’re not as tipsy as I expected before this auction, but that’s alright. I’ll still try to get your donations,” she quipped humorously.

The “Only Murders in the Building” star and founder of Rare Beauty aims to raise $100 million through her fund to support organizations that offer mental health services to youth globally. As of now, the Rare Impact Fund has committed $15 million to “philanthropic partners,” granting funds to 26 nonprofit organizations, according to its website.

“I think we’re doing amazing things. I’m really proud,” Gomez shared with YSL News on the red carpet as the event began. “The funds we are raising are not just about the total amount. It’s about how that money can change lives.”

“My focus throughout my 20s and now has been on mental health. It’s a daily commitment,” Gomez continued. “I know many people are suffering, and I want to be someone they can trust with their truths and provide hope in what feels very dark.”

During the event, Gomez discussed how her experiences with mental illness motivated her to help ensure that resources are available for more young people.

“When I learned I had bipolar disorder, it was a turning point for me. All I needed was the right knowledge to get the support I required,” she told the packed room of several hundred attendees.

“This is the beginning of a new journey, and everyone deserves support when they need it, no matter who they are. I believe in the importance of connection, and I want to be a voice for those who might feel voiceless.”

Benny Blanco Emerges as One of the Night’s Top Donors

Blanco, a leading music producer and Gomez’s boyfriend since late 2023, sat close to Gomez and her family at the event.

His donation of a one-hour virtual cooking experience alongside “The Bear” star and chef Matty Matheson ignited a bidding contest that reached $7,500. Blanco also recently published a cookbook featuring exciting recipes.

The auction got particularly competitive later on, when Blanco entered a bidding war for a five-night stay at an upscale three-story villa in an exclusive area of western Mexico, offered by Airbnb. He actively waved his No. 5 paddle and emerged victorious with a bid of $25,000 for the getaway. Blanco later pledged a top-tier donation of $20,000 for the Rare Impact Fund.

Meanwhile, Jackie Aina was keen on winning a one-hour design consultation with Kelly Wearstler, successfully securing it for $10,000.

After each of the five items was auctioned, Gomez made her way to congratulate the winning bidders.

Karol G is having a ‘social media break’

Before her performances of the hits “Mi Ex Tenía Razón” and “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido,” which energized the audience, Grammy-winning reggaetón artist Karol G shared her feelings of “greatness and happiness” following her record-setting Mañana Será Bonito World Tour.

In an interview with YSL News, Karol mentioned she’s been “traveling extensively with friends” visiting places like Bora Bora, Iceland, and various locations in Colombia over the last two months—a well-deserved break after headlining tours back to back since 2021.

“It’s a present I’m giving myself for years of hard work, and it’s really helping me evolve,” she remarked regarding her trips. Additionally, she has been enjoying a “social media break” during this period.

“As my career progresses, my time away from social media is also increasing. There are so many people sharing opinions without knowing you, your reality, or your struggles. But everyone feels entitled to their opinion,” Karol noted.

“Everyone presents their best moments, but we all face challenges and insecurities,” she continued. “It’s important to work through those issues with the right people: friends, family, and enjoying moments with your boyfriend, sisters, and friends. Social media? No thanks.”
