Breyana Elwell and her husband initially set up a fan on their porch to deter mosquitoes during the scorching temperatures in New Braunfels, Texas, not realizing it would attract local wildlife.

After accidentally leaving the fan on overnight, Breyana discovered a surprise visitor the next morning—a squirrel relaxing in front of it.

With temperatures soaring above 100 degrees, it was clear that the fan provided much-needed relief for the squirrel, prompting Breyana to keep it running. The next day, she spotted not just one, but two squirrels seeking refuge from the heat, which inspired her to create a ‘squirrel city.’

This squirrel city features a welcoming sign, ‘Welcome Squirrels,’ and is designed like a spa! It includes fans, a vintage dollhouse, a water fountain, small picnic tables, and tasty treats for her furry visitors. Many companies, after seeing her viral video, generously donated fans to help ensure the squirrels stay cool.

Each morning, Breyana dedicates about two hours to prepare this comfortable retreat and plans to keep it available for the squirrels throughout the entire year.
