Taylor Swift addresses ‘devastating’ alleged terrorist threat in Vienna
Taylor Swift has finally spoken out regarding the alleged terrorist threat that forced the cancellation of her concerts in Vienna earlier this month.
The pop sensation recently concluded her series of five performances at London’s Wembley Stadium and expressed her feelings about the end of this European leg of the Eras Tour in an Instagram post on Wednesday. In her detailed message, Swift explained that she chose to wait until now to discuss the Vienna events for the sake of her fans’ safety.
“It was heartbreaking to have to cancel the shows in Vienna. The circumstances behind the cancellations filled me with both fear and a heavy sense of guilt as so many people were looking forward to attending those concerts,” Swift noted. “Yet, I am incredibly thankful to the authorities because, ultimately, we are grieving concerts and not lives.”
She went on to say, “I felt uplifted by the community spirit among the fans who came together during this time. I felt it was crucial for me and my team to focus all our efforts on ensuring the safety of the nearly half a million people attending the London shows. We collaborated closely with stadium personnel and British officials every day, and I am deeply appreciative of their assistance.”
“I want to be very clear: I will not publicly comment on matters that might provoke those who wish to harm my fans,” she emphasized.
“In situations like this, ‘silence’ involves exercising caution and waiting for the appropriate moment to speak out. My main concern was ensuring a safe completion of our European tour, and I am relieved to report that we succeeded.”
Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the suspected terrorist plot that was set for one of Swift’s Vienna performances on August 8-10. The arrested persons include an 18-year-old Iraqi national, a 19-year-old Austrian residing near the Hungarian border, and a 17-year-old hired by a service provider for the Ernst Happel Stadium.
The Vienna Federal Ministry of the Interior announced on August 7 that the three concerts at the Ernst Happel Stadium were canceled following arrests related to “planned attacks at major events.” This marked the first cancellation in the ongoing tour which started in March 2023.
The Eras Tour is nearing completion after a year and a half and nearly 130 performances. Swift plans to return to North America in the fall and winter to perform in cities including Miami (Oct. 18-20), New Orleans (Oct. 25-27), Indianapolis (Nov. 1-3), Toronto (Nov. 14-16, 21-23), and Vancouver (Dec. 6-8).

“To summarize,” her caption on August 21 read.
“We have officially completed the European leg of The Eras Tour. This journey brought some of the most passionate audiences I’ve ever performed for, new traditions in the show, and an entirely new era has been added. It was a more intense schedule than we’ve ever experienced before, and I couldn’t be prouder of my team and fellow performers for their physical ability to execute this show and manage our massive stage setup under tight turnaround times. They are incredibly talented and I feel fortunate that they dedicated their time, energy, and skill to The Eras Tour.
“Stepping onstage in London was a whirlwind of emotions. Losing our Vienna concerts was heartbreaking. The reason behind the cancellations introduced a fresh wave of anxiety and substantial guilt as many people had been excited to see those performances. However, I am immensely grateful to the authorities because they allowed us to mourn missed concerts rather than lost lives.
“I found hope in the solidarity I witnessed among fans who came together during this difficult time. I focused my efforts on ensuring the safety of the nearly half a million fans who were set to attend the London shows. My team and I worked closely with stadium staff and British authorities daily, and I can’t thank them enough for their support.
“Let me reiterate: I won’t discuss certain matters publicly if it risks inciting harm against my fans who attend my concerts.
“In this context, ‘silence’ is actually about exercising restraint and waiting for the right moment to speak out. My focus was on safely completing our European tour, and I am relieved to say that we have achieved this.
“Performing in London felt like an extraordinary dream. The energy from the five audiences at Wembley Stadium was filled with enthusiasm, joy, and uncontainable excitement. The atmosphere in that stadium felt like a great big embrace from 92,000 fans each night, providing me with a sense of calm and joy as I performed.
“We also had INCREDIBLE surprise performances from my dear friends @teddysphotos, @florenceandthemachine, and @jackantonoff. Performing ‘Florida!!!’ with Flo for the first time was breathtaking, and Ed took me back to our fond memories from the Red Tour. It was an immense honor to become the first solo artist to perform at Wembley eight times during a single tour.
“To all the fans who joined us this summer, you will always hold a treasured place in my heart. It was a privilege to perform for you, dance alongside you, and share such memorable experiences. We’ll see you again when we restart The Eras Tour in October, but for now, we take a well-deserved break. Thank you for this amazing journey. May it continue”
