There were expected shifts at the top of the College Football Playoff rankings that came out on Tuesday, following notable upsets in Week 11.

However, the top two teams from last week, Oregon and Ohio State, held their ground. Oregon stays in first place while Ohio State remains in second place, which mirrors their rankings in the US LBM Coaches Poll.

Things changed significantly after that. Georgia and Miami, previously ranked third and fourth, saw a drop in their standings, making room for a revised top five.

Texas has moved up to No. 3, surpassing Penn State and Indiana. Though the Longhorns’ schedule doesn’t feature many high-quality victories, they suffered a loss against Georgia. Similarly, the Nittany Lions only have one defeat, which also came from Ohio State. Meanwhile, Indiana remains unbeaten and has a chance to make a significant statement when they face Ohio State on Nov. 23.

The remaining top 10 includes, in order: Brigham Young, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Miami, and Alabama. Mississippi climbed five spots to claim No. 11 after a win over Georgia, who fell nine places to No. 12.

It’s not surprising that the Southeastern Conference leads with nine teams represented in the rankings. This includes South Carolina, entering the rankings at No. 21 after defeating Vanderbilt. The Big Ten has four teams, all of which are in the top five. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) also has four teams, while the Big 12 has three. The American Athletic is the only other conference with two teams ranked.

Boise State is the top Group of Five team at No. 13, ranking 11 spots above Army and 12 above Tulane. The highest-ranked champion from those leagues secures a spot in the playoff, and the Broncos could potentially earn a first-round bye for being one of the top four conference champions. BYU is the only Big 12 team ahead of Boise State, with Miami from the ACC also ahead. Army has a pivotal game against Notre Dame on Nov. 23 that could help elevate their ranking.

This ranking represents the second of five that the College Football Playoff committee will release. The next two rankings will be published on the following two Tuesdays. The final rankings are scheduled to be revealed on Dec. 8, when the playoff bracket and the 12 qualifying teams will be announced.

What is the College Football Playoff schedule?

The first-round matchups will occur on Dec. 20 and Dec. 21 at the campuses of the higher-seeded teams. In these matchups, the No. 5 seed will take on the No. 12 seed, No. 6 will face No. 11, No. 7 will compete against No. 10, and No. 8 will meet No. 9.

The winners will proceed to the quarterfinals, with the Fiesta Bowl set for Dec. 31. The Sugar Bowl, Rose Bowl, and Peach Bowl will take place on Jan. 1.

The semifinals will be hosted by the Orange Bowl and Cotton Bowl on Jan. 9 and Jan. 10, respectively.

The championship game is scheduled for Jan. 20 in Atlanta at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
