One of the most discussed topics in the “Mr. McMahon” docuseries focuses on a sexual assault lawsuit filed against WWE’s founder, Vince McMahon, by a former employee.

The six episodes cover a range of scandals linked to McMahon, including steroid usage and the deaths of prominent wrestling stars, alongside past allegations of sexual abuse.

Despite addressing various criticisms, McMahon does not speak about the lawsuit initiated by Janel Grant in the series.

“After the allegations became public, Vince McMahon canceled his final interviews for this series.”

Most interviews for the series were conducted before the lawsuit news broke in January. However, it is certainly mentioned.

Journalist Khadeeja Safdar from The Wall Street Journal, who first reported the lawsuit, elaborates on the allegations, notably mentioning that McMahon allegedly used Grant as leverage to persuade a WWE star to re-sign. The unnamed wrestler is reported to be Brock Lesnar, a major WWE figure who hasn’t appeared on screen since the lawsuit’s announcement.

Reporters also affirm that the 2022 investigation involving McMahon included Grant in its findings.

Did Janel Grant Participate in ‘Mr. McMahon’?

Grant did not contribute to “Mr. McMahon.” Her attorney, Ann Callis, was vague about whether Grant was invited to join the series but stated last week that her client deserved the opportunity to express her full story rather than being part of someone else’s narrative.

“(Grant) will get her day in court, and McMahon will be held accountable,” Callis asserted.

Although he did not comment specifically on the recent accusations, McMahon released a statement regarding the documentary shortly before its airing. He expressed that after viewing an initial cut of the series, it “takes the predictable path of conflating the ‘Mr. McMahon’ character with my true self, Vince.”

“Much has been misrepresented or excluded altogether in order to mislead viewers. The producers employ conventional editing methods along with out-of-context footage and outdated soundbites to manipulate perception and support a deceptive narrative,” McMahon stated. “In an effort to bolster their misleading story, the producers rely on a lawsuit stemming from an affair I ended as evidence that I embody ‘Mr. McMahon.’ I hope that viewers keep an open mind and remember that there are two sides to every story.”

What Are the Allegations in the Sexual Assault Lawsuit Against Vince McMahon?

In her lawsuit, Grant claims that McMahon required her to sign a non-disclosure agreement about their relationship in exchange for $3 million. However, she alleges that she did not receive the full payment from McMahon and seeks to nullify the agreement through this lawsuit.

Hired by WWE in 2019, Grant recounts her experiences with McMahon. She claims that she was compelled into a sexual relationship and that he would share explicit materials about her with other WWE staff. Additionally, she states that she was coerced into engaging in sexual relations with other WWE personnel, including John Laurinaitis, the former head of talent relations, who is also named in the lawsuit.

According to the lawsuit, in May 2020, McMahon began recruiting other men and forcing Grant into sex trafficking. Alleged text messages from McMahon indicate he told Grant, “I’m the only one who owns you and controls who I want to (expletive) you.”
