Tim Walz, the vice-presidential pick for Kamala Harris, has agreed to participate in a debate against JD Vance, Donald Trump’s running mate. The debate will take place in October and is being organized by CBS News.

This week, CBS announced it had invited both vice-presidential candidates to debate on either September 17, September 24, October 1, or October 8. Walz confirmed through a post on X that he has accepted the invitation for October 1.

“Looking forward to our debate on October 1, JD,” he wrote.

As of now, Vance has not made any public comments regarding the debate. YSL News is currently seeking more information on the matter.

JD Vance, 40, is an Ohio senator and former Marine, who became widely known for his bestselling book “Hillbilly Elegy.” Tim Walz, 60, is the governor of Minnesota, a long-serving legislator for the state, and a former high school football coach. Politically, both candidates generally align with their respective running mates, but hold differing views.

In a fundraising email sent out on Wednesday, Walz expressed his eagerness to debate Vance.

“I’m excited to debate the individual who aligns with Donald Trump’s risky and outdated policies,” he stated.

Prior to Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 election race, Trump campaign adviser Brian Hughes mocked the internal disagreements within the Democratic Party regarding the president’s reelection prospects and noted that the GOP had declined an invitation for a vice-presidential debate.

“Accepting the invitation would be unfair to Gavin Newsom, JB Pritzker, Gretchen Whitmer, or whoever Kamala Harris ultimately selects as her running partner,” Hughes remarked in a statement on July 17.

Despite that, Vance has confirmed he plans to debate Walz. In an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash on Sunday, he stated, “Absolutely, I want to debate Tim Walz. It’s crucial, and it brings to light the significant differences between the Trump-Vance ticket and the opposition. We value engaging with the media, answering questions, and debating.”
