Chauncy Glover, Emmy-winning LA TV anchor, dies at 39: Reports

Chauncy Glover, a television anchor working in Los Angeles, has tragically passed away at the young age of 39.

His death was reported by CBS Los Angeles and KABC Los Angeles after he served as a news anchor on KCAL/CBS in Los Angeles. Prior to that, he was an anchor at the ABC affiliate KTRK in Houston. The specifics surrounding his death have not yet been disclosed.

Glover began his tenure at KCAL in October 2023, following eight years at the Houston station, as stated in his CBS Los Angeles biography. Originally from Athens, Alabama, he had also worked in Jacksonville, Florida, and Detroit. Witnessing a tragic incident in Detroit where a young person lost their life to gun violence inspired him to start The Chauncy Glover Project, a mentoring initiative for youth.

Requests for comments from the project have been sent by YSL News.

Through his initiative, based in Houston, Glover successfully guided 350 young men to college and mentored over 1,000 boys.

During his time at KTRK in Houston, Glover made history as the first Black main evening anchor at the station, where he worked for eight years.

Throughout his career, Glover earned three Emmy awards, including one for a remarkable 2017 rescue story during Hurricane Harvey, where he helped deliver a baby.

KCAL broadcast a heartfelt statement from Glover’s family on Tuesday.

“We, Sherry and Robert Glover, along with Chauncy’s beloved family, are devastated by the unimaginable loss of our beloved Chauncy. He was more than a son and brother – he was a beacon of light in our lives and a true hero to his community,” the family’s statement expressed. “Chauncy’s compassion and dedication to helping others, through the Chauncy Glover Project, has impacted countless lives and inspired many young men to chase their aspirations. His talent and warmth left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered, making the world a brighter place during his time, now dimmed by his absence.”

His coworkers, including Dani Ruberti, Pat Harvey, Juan Fernandez, and Suzie Suh, have all expressed their sorrow over his passing.

“As you would expect, the news has left us shocked and in mourning,” Harvey stated during the broadcast. “Chauncy may have only been here for a year, but he made a significant impact on our newsroom and the Southern California community.”

Ruberti, who started at the station around the same time as Glover, reminisced about his infectious laughter. She remarked, “He had a unique ability to make people feel loved and special. When he entered a room, his warmth was undeniable.”
