One employee fatally shot at Texas USPS facility; suspect identified as a co-worker
Police report the shooter faces murder charges.
A tragic shooting incident at a USPS facility in Texas on Monday has resulted in the death of one employee, according to law enforcement officials.
Missouri City police responded to reports of a shooting at the South Houston Processing center shortly before 10:00 p.m. as stated in a press release from YSL News.
Upon arrival, the police evaluated the premises and discovered a deceased individual inside. They subsequently arrested a suspect who matched eyewitness descriptions, according to the authorities.
The identified suspect is Derrick Lott, who has been charged with murder and is currently in custody.
Reports indicate the suspect and the victim were coworkers
The victim has been named Kevin J. Hines by the Missouri City police. KHOU reports that Lott and Hines were colleagues, but the motivation behind the shooting remains unclear.
Investigators are continuing their work on the case. Dana Carter from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service in Houston confirmed the agency is collaborating with local law enforcement on the investigation.
“Our collaboration with [the Missouri City Police Department] focuses not only on conducting a comprehensive investigation but also ensuring the safety of the community and our staff,” Carter stated.
