A small aircraft crashes into Utah Lake on Friday; rescue teams are working to locate the victims
The aircraft is presently submerged under 8 feet of water, with recovery efforts expected to continue later today. Authorities suspect there were two individuals aboard when the crash occurred.
Emergency services are on the scene at Utah Lake near Provo, Utah, where a small plane went down on Friday close to the Provo Airport.
Sgt. Spence Cannon, spokesperson for the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, stated that investigators believe two people were on board when the plane crashed. The first reports of the incident were received around 10 a.m. local time.
“We have footage of the crash, and given the circumstances, it seems highly improbable that any occupants survived,” Cannon remarked.
By Friday afternoon, a private barge along with divers were on-site undertaking efforts to retrieve the aircraft from the lake, while some debris from the crash had already been collected by authorities.
Investigation into the crash is ongoing
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has announced on X that their team is currently looking into the incident.
The NTSB has identified the aircraft as a Cirrus SR22.
