During New Year’s celebration with Musk, Trump announces Jimmy Carter’s funeral attendance
Donald Trump celebrated the arrival of the new year alongside his family, Vice President-elect JD Vance, Elon Musk, and other notable figures at his lavish gathering in Palm Beach. During the event, he informed reporters that he plans to attend the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter.
Additionally, Trump expressed his confidence that House Republicans would back Speaker Mike Johnson in the voting session scheduled for Friday. He also reiterated his support for H-1B visas in remarks shared on C-SPAN.
Jimmy Carter passed away on Sunday at the age of 100. His funeral is set to take place on January 9 at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. Trump did not comment on whether he had spoken to Carter’s family.
Although Trump endorsed Johnson’s continuation as speaker, Johnson has faced criticism from certain Republican members and is now under scrutiny to see if he can unite enough lawmakers to support him.
“He’s the one that can win right now, people like him,” Trump stated in reference to Johnson, and mentioned he would advocate for Johnson to congressional members “if necessary.”
A discussion surrounding the H-1B visa program gained traction on social media last week, involving Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, who Trump designated to head his Department of Government Efficiency. Both Musk and Ramaswamy supported the use of H-1B visas, which have faced criticism from other prominent members of Trump’s MAGA movement, including Steve Bannon, Trump’s former White House chief strategist.
Trump stepped in to endorse the H-1B visas and reaffirmed his stance on the issue during his comments on Tuesday.
As he made his entrance to Mar-a-Lago with his wife Melania by his side, Trump made remarks from the red carpet. Vance attended with his wife, Usha, and Musk was accompanied by his son, as per media reports and social media posts.
Other notable guests included: Trump’s choice for national security adviser, U.S. Rep. Michael Waltz; his nominee for secretary of education, Linda McMahon; significant GOP contributor Miriam Adelson; Trump attorney Alina Habba; former boxing promoter Don King; longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone; U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and his wife Heidi; as well as Trump’s children Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Tiffany Trump, according to CBS.
