Trump Surges Ahead in Betting Odds Against Kamala Harris Post-Debate

Donald Trump now favored over Kamala Harris in betting odds following debate

For the first time since the presidential debate on September 10, former President Donald Trump has overtaken Vice President Kamala Harris in betting odds for the White House.

According to YSL News’ ongoing surveys, Trump’s most significant lead is at BetOnline, where he is listed at -140 compared to Harris at +120.

While U.S. bookmakers are prohibited from participating in this action, the odds remained stable through September, but Trump’s popularity has surged in the last two weeks.

This upswing comes after a week in which Trump used increasingly aggressive rhetoric regarding immigrants. He claimed he would utilize the Aliens Enemies Act of 1798 to deport undocumented people during a Colorado rally, referencing the same law that resulted in the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II.

How Reliable Are Election Odds Based on Past Elections?

Historically, the betting favorite has only lost twice since 1866, according to the Conversation, a nonprofit news outlet.

The last significant upset occurred in 2016 when Hillary Clinton, who was favored to win throughout her campaign, lost to Trump.

The previous upset happened in 1948 when Harry Truman, a Democrat, triumphed over Republican Thomas Dewey despite being eight-to-one underdog odds.
