DirecTV Customers Can Claim a $20 Credit Due to Disney/ESPN Service Interruption: Here’s How
The credit will be available for up to two billing cycles and can be claimed through a designated website. The duration of the service interruption is uncertain as negotiations are still ongoing.
Many DirecTV users are currently unable to access channels owned by the Walt Disney Company due to an ongoing dispute between DirecTV and Disney that began on Saturday.
The blackout affected ESPN and additional channels right as the U.S. Open was starting, coinciding with the kickoff of the college football season.
This interruption took place during fourth-round tennis matches and just 10 minutes before the kickoff of a college football game between No. 13 LSU and No. 23 USC.
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) is also making its comeback on both ABC and ESPN, networks owned by Disney, for the first time in years.
As a form of compensation for the service outage, DirecTV is offering its subscribers a $20 credit, but certain steps must be taken to avail of this offer.
How to Claim the $20 Credit from DirecTV?
To claim your credit, DirecTV subscribers should go to: https://www.directv.com/tvpromise/.
According to the information on the site, “We’re exploring all options to restore your channel. To show appreciation for your understanding, until the issue is fixed, we are providing you with a bill credit.”
Upon visiting the site, subscribers will need to input their DirecTV service type (e.g., DirecTV, DirecTV Stream, or U-verse) along with their zip code.
After that, users should select “Explore Bill Credits” and indicate whether they have DirecTV via satellite or Internet. Afterwards, they will be directed to a page to enter the email linked to their account.
The $20 credit will be applied over the course of two billing cycles, as stated on the website.
What is the Duration of the DirecTV Disney Blackout?
The exact end date of the blackout is currently unknown, but such disputes between cable companies like DirecTV and Disney have become increasingly frequent in recent years. As cable providers seek more authority over their channel offerings, many consumers are also shifting to streaming services.
