Apple iOS 18.2: Key Features including Genmoji and AI Improvements

Prepare for the next stage.

Today, Apple has rolled out its latest software update for iPhones, iPads, and Macs. The updates, labeled iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2, will enhance features powered by Apple Intelligence on compatible devices.

The initial set of Apple Intelligence features debuted in October with the iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 updates. These features were previewed during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June.

If you did not enable Apple Intelligence in the last update, you won’t need to wait any longer. Make sure to stay connected to Wi-Fi and power while your device downloads the update and AI models to prevent any issues.

Here’s what you need to know about this update and its key features:

Genmoji

One of the innovative features is Genmoji, which lets users design their own emojis accessible through the keyboard.

When users launch Genmoji, they can describe the emoji they want to create and choose from the options generated by Apple Intelligence. Additionally, users can use photos from their library to generate Genmoji of their friends. These personalized emojis can then be used in messages, as stickers, or as message reactions, appearing next to recently used emojis.

Genmoji is currently available for iPhone and iPad, with plans to launch on Mac at a later time.

Image Playground

The Image Playground feature allows users to generate AI-made images. Users can input a description, select photos from their library, or pick concepts from various categories like costumes or themes. They can also create images in a variety of artistic styles, including illustrations.

This feature will be available in the Messages app and as a standalone app on compatible iPhones, Macs, and iPads.

Also, the Image Wand tool integrated into Notes gives users the ability to use Image Playground features within the app, letting them convert sketches into images or generate relevant visuals from the document’s context.

Siri’s ChatGPT Integration

The redesigned Siri from the previous update will now feature integration with ChatGPT. With the user’s consent, Siri can use ChatGPT to assist in certain responses. Users have the option to enable or adjust these settings at any time, and a ChatGPT account is not necessary to use this feature.

Other Updates and Features:

  • In iPhone 16 models, Visual Intelligence enables users to obtain information using the camera, such as summarized text or details about an object or location, via the Camera Control button.
  • Users can make custom rewrites using Writing Tools, allowing them to specify how they want to modify text, such as making a party invitation sound more exciting.
  • The Notes app introduces Compose in Writing Tools to generate text using ChatGPT.
