‘The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical’ premiere: Vanessa Williams, Lily Collins dazzle
The much-anticipated premiere of “The Devil Wears Prada” musical took place in London, attracting a host of stars, including royalty.
Attendees included celebrities such as Lily Collins and Elizabeth Hurley. Fashion legends like Donatella Versace and Betsey Johnson were present, along with the show’s inspiration, Anna Wintour, and lead actress Vanessa Williams.
In the musical, Williams portrays the iconic “Devil” character, Miranda Priestly, famously played by Meryl Streep in the acclaimed 2006 film, which is based on the 2003 book by Lauren Weisberger, who once worked as Wintour’s assistant.
Joining Williams on stage are talented actors including Georgie Buckland as Andy (originally played by Anne Hathaway) and Amy Di Bartolomeo as Emily (originally played by Emily Blunt).
The musical features music by Elton John, who is known for his work on other theatrical productions like “The Lion King” and “Tammy Faye.”
Also spotted at the premiere were British model and DJ Lady Mary Charteris, member of the Scottish nobility, and British royal family member Lady Amelia Windsor. They were joined by Collins’ husband, director Charlie McDowell, and Hurley’s son, model Damian Hurley, as well as actor Luke Evans.
“The Devil Wears Prada” has become the latest film from the 2000s to transition into a musical, following in the footsteps of productions like “Mean Girls” and “Legally Blonde.”
The show is currently being performed at the Dominion Theatre on London’s West End, with tickets available through the end of 2025.
Williams mentioned to YSL News in September her hopes for the musical to make its way to Broadway eventually.
“(The West End version is) a different show than what was seen in Chicago,” she remarked. “I’m really eager to present to the audience what it has evolved into. Elton is excited about it too.”
