The first snowfall of winter hits parts of the US: Check out the pictures
Several regions across the United States are experiencing their initial snowfall of the winter season.
Snow accumulated in various cities throughout the Great Lakes area, notably in Indianapolis, Chicago, and Milwaukee. Additionally, the Thursday Night Football game featuring the Cleveland Browns and the Pittsburgh Steelers transformed into a snow scene as a lake-effect snow warning was issued for northeast Ohio.
On Friday, the National Weather Service forecasts moderate to heavy snowfall in parts of the central Appalachians with expected accumulations of 6-12 inches, and possibly more in certain areas. Rain and snow showers are also anticipated across many parts of the Northeast and northern regions of the Mid-Atlantic.
According to the NWS, “heavy mountain snow” is projected for the Washington Cascades and northern Rockies through Saturday. Certain sections of the northern Sierra could see several feet of snowfall by Saturday evening.
In areas above 7,000 feet elevation, snowfall of 1 to 2 feet is expected, with up to 3 feet possible at the highest peaks. Regions below this elevation might receive between 2 to 6 inches of snow.
