World Series celebrations devolve into chaos with looting, arrests in Los Angeles

Police issued dispersal orders in downtown Los Angeles and made arrests following reports of looting, vandalism and a hostile crowd that threw fireworks at officers and set a bus aflame following the Dodgers’ World Series win over the New York Yankees.

The Los Angeles Police Department in several posts on X said multiple businesses were looted and property was vandalized during “violent celebrations” of the Dodgers’ victory.

The department shared a video on X showing people running out of a Nike store carrying boxes and visible merchandise.

Police said on X that people in a crowd threw fireworks and “various projectiles” at officers, triggering calls for extra resources.

The crowd at one point “surrounded an MTA bus and is attempting to set it on fire,” according to the police department, which said the incident occurred near Sunset Boulevard and Echo Park. Photographers later captured images of a Metro bus engulfed in flames.

Throughout the night, officers issued dispersal orders across the downtown area.

Police arrested at least 12 people in downtown and the Echo Park areas, said Drake Madison, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department. Six face commercial burglary charges, four were detained on receiving stolen property charges and two were arrested on a charge of failure to disperse, Madison said.

The Los Angeles Dodgers claimed their eighth World Series title in franchise history Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium in a 7-6 Game 5 victory.
