Zayn Malik’s Touching Tribute to Liam Payne in His First Concert Since the Tragic Loss

Zayn Malik Pays Tribute to Liam Payne During First Show Following One Direction Star’s Passing

Zayn Malik is expressing his affection for Liam Payne.

During a Saturday performance in England, the singer paid tribute to his late One Direction bandmate, who tragically passed away last month after a fall from a hotel balcony in Argentina.

A TikTok video captured the moment when, right after Malik, 31, departed the stage, the lights stopped flashing, and a message appeared on screen saying, “Liam Payne 1993-2024,” followed by “Love you bro” along with a heart symbol.

Viewers of the TikTok video could be heard crying, and many fans shared their emotional responses in the comments. One user remarked, “I’m so amazed at Zayn’s ability to keep going with this performance,” adding, “These boys have endured so much! 💔”

Following the “heartbreaking loss” of Payne, Malik had previously postponed the U.S. leg of his Stairway to the Sky tour. This leg was initially set to start in October but has now been rescheduled to 2025. Malik is currently on tour, performing at several locations in England, with upcoming shows in Manchester and London.

Saturday’s concert marked Malik’s first appearance since Payne, 31, died on October 16 due to a fall from a third-floor balcony in Buenos Aires.

On Wednesday, Payne was privately laid to rest in a funeral in Amersham, England. Malik, along with Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson from One Direction, attended the service, as did Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy.

Earlier this month, authorities charged three individuals with “crimes of abandonment after death, and the supply and facilitation of narcotics” related to Payne’s death. It is claimed that one suspect accompanied Payne daily while he was in Buenos Aires, while a hotel worker and another suspect allegedly provided him drugs.

Toxicology reports indicated that Payne had traces of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescribed antidepressant in his system within 72 hours of his death, leading investigators to believe he was either partially or fully unconscious when he fell. The theory that the fall may have been intentional was dismissed.

In October, the members of One Direction released a joint statement expressing their sorrow over Payne’s passing.

They stated, “We are utterly heartbroken by the news of Liam’s death. In time, and when everyone is ready, we will share more. For now, we need to take some time to mourn and process losing our beloved brother. The moments we shared with him will be cherished forever.”

In a heartfelt message on Instagram, Malik shared his feelings about Payne, mentioning that he often finds himself speaking to him, hoping that his friend can hear him.

“I never got to thank you for being there during some of the toughest times in my life,” Malik wrote. “When I was just a 17-year-old missing home, you were always there with a smile and a positive attitude, reassuring me that you were my friend and that I was loved.”

“I lost a brother when you departed and can’t express how much I would give to embrace you one last time, say my goodbyes, and tell you how much I loved and respected you. I will hold our memories close to my heart for all eternity; no words can truly capture how devastated I feel right now.”
