Amazon to hire 250,000 seasonal employees for the holiday season: Essential details on roles and pay

With the holiday season approaching, Amazon has revealed plans to hire 250,000 seasonal, part-time, and full-time employees for their customer fulfillment and transportation services across the United States.

Last year, the company made a similar recruitment announcement, aiming to fill 250,000 positions and offering wage increases for roles in transportation and fulfillment.

“The holiday season is thrilling for both Amazon and our customers, which allows us to generate numerous job opportunities for those wanting to earn extra cash or start a career at Amazon,” the company stated in a recent press release.

“While job specifics differ according to the position, every role provides competitive pay, flexible work hours, and various benefits,” they noted. Employees in full-time positions will enjoy benefits such as health coverage starting on their first day and access to education programs.

Amazon is allocating $2.2 billion for increased pay for its fulfillment and transportation staff. Seasonal workers can anticipate earning at least $18 per hour, along with comprehensive benefits, including health insurance. The company claims that with the benefits offered, which start from day one, the average total compensation is over $29 per hour.

Additional benefits vary based on the position and employment type but may include vision and dental coverage, a 401(k) plan with company matching, up to 20 weeks of paid maternity/parental leave for birth parents, and free mental health and financial support services.

Amazon highlights seasonal positions as a pathway for career progression

Many people apply for seasonal or part-time jobs to secure extra earnings during the holidays, but Amazon emphasizes that these opportunities can serve as a stepping stone for career advancement and a chance to evaluate if the company aligns with their long-term goals.

The company notes, “Seasonal staff who continue their employment here can see an average pay rise of 15% during their first three years.”

According to the press release, Amazon is also eager to welcome back many returning employees, stating that a third of those who have worked seasonal jobs in the past come back.
