Auburn Rises, Kansas Holds Steady at the Top of YSL News Sports Men’s Basketball Poll


The men’s college basketball season is just beginning, yet several highly anticipated games in the opening week have led to notable shifts in the YSL News Sports Coaches Poll.

 

Kansas remains at the top after defeating North Carolina in a significant match at home. The Jayhawks garnered 21 out of 31 first-place votes, while North Carolina dropped one spot to No. 11. Alabama holds the second position overall with four first-place votes following a 2-0 start. Two-time defending champions Connecticut stay in third place with three top votes.

Auburn was the biggest climber of the week, jumping from No. 11 to No. 4 after a road victory against Houston on Saturday night. The Tigers received two first-place votes, while the Cougars fell to No. 10. Gonzaga also moved up a couple of spots to complete the top five, earning the final No. 1 vote and surpassing No. 6 Duke. Iowa State and Arizona occupy the seventh and eighth positions, while Tennessee makes its way into the top 10 at No. 9.

 

No. 22 Ohio State enters the rankings after defeating Texas. Additionally, No. 24 Rutgers and No. 25 St. John’s have also made their way into the poll. Texas, UCLA, and Mississippi have dropped out of the rankings.
