Bears’ Douglas Coleman III removed from field by ambulance
Douglas Coleman III, a safety for the Chicago Bears, was transported off the field by ambulance during the preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night.
Coleman was injured while making a tackle during the opening play of the second half. He collided with Chiefs wide receiver Cornell Powell, causing his neck to snap back at the moment of contact.
Medical staff immediately attended to Coleman and secured him onto a stabilizing board before transporting him by ambulance.
After the game, Bears head coach Matt Eberflus informed reporters that Coleman was able to move his limbs on the field and even gave a thumbs-up. Eberflus added that Coleman was taken to a hospital for further evaluation.
At 26 years old, Coleman has not yet made his NFL debut. He was vying for a spot on the Chicago roster after spending two seasons with the Ottawa Redblacks in the Canadian Football League. Coleman went undrafted after leaving Texas Tech in 2020.
