‘Brady Bunch’ Actress Claims CBS Excluded Her from Reboot Due to Controversial Opinions

Here’s how a beloved star from “The Brady Bunch” was said to be unwelcome in a proposed reboot.

During a recent episode of the Walk Away Campaign podcast, Susan Olsen, known for her role as Cindy Brady on “The Brady Bunch,” revealed that CBS Studios was looking to reboot the iconic sitcom but hesitated to include her due to her political beliefs.

Although CBS Studios opted not to comment, a source informed YSL News that Olsen was excluded from the reboot due to her controversial remarks and accusations of hate speech.

Olsen mentioned that the reboot had been in development for about a year, with a showrunner and producer involved. She expressed excitement for the show’s treatment, which she likened to the “Roseanne” reboot, featuring Cindy as a libertarian podcaster. Olsen identifies as a libertarian but also aligns with the Republican Party at times to participate in primary elections.

However, Olsen claimed that CBS expressed concerns about her involvement after becoming aware of a 2016 incident in which she reportedly used an anti-gay slur when messaging actor Leon Acord-Whiting following his appearance on her political talk show.

At the time, LA Talk Radio stated it “does not tolerate hateful speech from anyone associated with our operations” and announced they had ended their relationship with Olsen. She clarified on the podcast that the incident had been misrepresented and asserted that she was not fired, although she eventually stopped hosting her political show.

In response to the incident, Olsen said CBS required her to attend a “political correctness” training course, to which she agreed. However, CBS later conducted a thorough review and came back with “50 pages of problematic” statements attributed to her, she claimed. These included her support for former President Donald Trump and doubts about the safety and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines, among other contentious opinions.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, clinical trials have verified COVID-19 vaccines as safe and effective, particularly in reducing severe illness, hospitalization, and death.

Olsen claimed that the conclusion of the evaluation was a definitive message: “No, we cannot include her in the show. If we proceed, it will be without her.” She expressed disbelief, stating, “Wow, I’ve been canceled,” adding, “I stand by everything I said.”

“I was like, ‘Wow, I’ve really been canceled,'” she commented.

Ultimately, she was informed that CBS would not approve her return unless she agreed to renounce her opinions, a condition she found unacceptable. When her agent suggested they could still find a workaround, she decided, “No, I’m finished. If this project moves forward, it will be a politically correct ‘Brady Bunch,’ and I want no part in it.”

Olsen indicated that the potential “Brady Bunch” reboot is now “dead,” prompting her to share her experiences publicly. She initially held back in hopes that the project would proceed with her fellow cast members.

After her iconic role as Cindy Brady in the original series, Olsen reprised her character in several productions, including “The Brady Kids,” “The Brady Bunch Hour,” and “The Bradys.” Most recently, she appeared with her former co-stars in the 2019 HGTV series “A Very Brady Renovation,” where they renovated the house used for exterior shots in the original show.
