‘Wheel of Fortune’ contestant makes viral mistake: ‘Treat yourself a round of sausage’
Social media is buzzing over a contestant’s amusing error on a recent episode of “Wheel of Fortune.”
During Monday’s show, a contestant named Will misguidedly guessed the puzzle “_ _ _e _ourse_f a roun_ of a_ _ _ause” as “Treat yourself a round of sausage.”
The correct answer, revealed just after his guess, was: “Give yourself a round of applause.”
Host Ryan Seacrest humorously commented, “Will, I think I prefer yours!”
In a follow-up social media video with “Wheel” correspondent Maggie Sajak, Will explained that his mind went completely blank while trying to solve the puzzle.
He added, “But if my dad is watching from retirement, cracking a beer and getting a good laugh out of it, then it was worth it.” He jokingly remarked that he would probably have sausages in his locker and police car when he returns.
Near the end of the clip, Seacrest tried to lighten the mood by signing a cue card for Will’s family. Maggie Sajak reassured him, “Don’t worry, you’re already getting some perks from this.”
Some viewers pointed out that the overall performance of the contestants that night left much to be desired.
One Instagram user commented, “It wasn’t just that round. There were mistakes like asking for a ‘K’ for the word ‘Five’ and another ‘K’ for ‘staring.’ The final round was cringeworthy for everyone, and the bonus round was just as bad. Nobody was on their A game.”
On the other hand, many people were quite understanding of Will’s blunder.
One user praised Will, saying, “Shoutout to Will for being a fantastic sport and for making us all laugh along with him!”
Will’s slip-up probably wasn’t as big as a viral misstep earlier this year, where a contestant guessed “_ _ n’_ l_ok aw_ _” as “Don’t look away,” even though the correct answer was “Can’t look away.” The contestants and even Vanna White were celebrating that guess, while their excitement quickly turned to dismay.
Pat Sajak lightheartedly commented, “Everyone is congratulating each other. And: We get to keep the money!”
Seacrest replaced Sajak as host in September after Sajak retired following more than four decades and 8,000 episodes.
