Experience waterfalls and spirit bears on this unique Holland America cruise to Alaska

Holland America Line is renowned for its cruises to Alaska, but their latest itinerary ventures into less-explored waters.

The new 18-Day Great Bear Rainforest and Alaska Explorer voyage will navigate through the historic Inside Passage, departing from Vancouver, Canada, in 2026, offering travelers a distinctive perspective.

“We’re thrilled to provide our guests with a journey through the famed Inside Passage—a route used by ships traveling to Alaska since the gold rush,” said Paul Grigsby, Vice President of Deployment and Revenue Planning for the cruise line, in a YSL News statement. “It’s uncommon for cruise ships to take this route, and when they do, it’s typically at night. With our new itinerary, we are offering travelers two full days of scenic cruising through the fjord-like waters, presenting numerous opportunities to admire breathtaking landscapes and abundant wildlife.”

This new offering follows a similar shorter itinerary that was introduced earlier this year.

When will the Great Bear Rainforest and Alaska Explorer cruise take place?

This round-trip cruise is scheduled to set sail from Vancouver on September 16, 2026, aboard the Zaandam ship, which can accommodate 1,432 guests.

What are the cruise’s destinations?

Voyagers will kick off their journey with scenic views through Seymour Narrows, the Grenville Channel, and other picturesque locations. Passengers will have opportunities to spot stunning waterfalls and diverse wildlife, including whales and the elusive spirit bears, known for their rare creamy or white fur.

The itinerary includes eight stops in Alaska, featuring ports like Sitka, Anchorage (where the ship will anchor overnight), and Juneau. Participants can embark on excursions to search for grizzly bears in the Khutzeymateen Valley or partake in various activities like nature hikes, golfing, and marine life tours.

Glacier exploration is also part of the plan: the ship will take passengers to attractions such as Hubbard Glacier and Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve.

What are the costs for the cruise?

Prices for the cruise start at $3,029 per person, which includes taxes and fees. Holland America’s pricing covers accommodations, a variety of onboard meals, live entertainment, and more.
