High prices making travel tough? Here are some places with affordable flights.

The holiday season often means navigating busy airports and heavy traffic. Still, a recent study indicates that many people may choose to stay home due to financial worries.

According to J.D. Power’s latest Banking and Payments Intelligence Report, published on Monday, 46% of survey respondents in October indicated they wouldn’t be traveling during the holidays, a rise from 39% in November 2023. This survey included 4,000 U.S. retail bank customers, primarily reflecting those labeled as “Vulnerable” and “Stressed,” especially among those aged 40 and older.

“This finding may take some by surprise, as many consumers seemed to experience some financial relief over the past few months,” said the report. “For those planning to travel, 70% will choose air travel and/or require overnight accommodations. Yet, the continuous rise in consumer prices has led many to opt-out of traveling altogether.”

The report also highlighted that 33% of participants felt financially “Healthy,” an increase from 28% a year ago.

While holiday airfares tend to be on the higher side, those in search of last-minute deals might still find some savings.
