Harry Styles has expressed his sorrow over the death of Liam Payne.

“I am truly heartbroken by the loss of Liam,” Styles, 30, stated in an Instagram post concerning his former One Direction bandmate. “His greatest joy was bringing happiness to others, and being by his side while he did was a true privilege.”

“Liam was open and genuine, wearing his heart on his sleeve with an infectious enthusiasm for life,” the singer said further. “He was kind, encouraging, and profoundly loving. The time we spent together will always be some of the most treasured of my life. I will miss him dearly, my lovely friend.”

Styles ended his message by saying, “My heart aches for Karen, Geoff, Nicola, Ruth, his son Bear, and everyone around the globe who loved and knew him, as I did.”

Payne, 31, was discovered deceased after falling from the third-floor balcony of the Casa Sur hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Styles’ statement followed shortly after One Direction posted a collective statement on their official Instagram page on Thursday.

“We are completely heartbroken by the news of Liam’s death,” the statement began. “In due time, when everyone is ready, we’ll share more. But for now, we must take time to grieve and reflect on the loss of our beloved brother. The memories we’ve made with him will be forever cherished.”

Zayn Malik also expressed his grief, saying, “I lost a brother when you left us and words can’t convey what I would give to hug you one last time and say goodbye properly while telling you how much I loved and admired you.”

“I will forever keep all our memories close to my heart; no words can explain how I feel right now—just beyond devastated,” he added.

Louis Tomlinson, 32, shared his heartfelt tribute on Instagram as well, referring to Payne as his “brother.”

“I am beyond heartbroken to be writing this, but I lost a brother yesterday. Liam was someone I admired every day—such a joyful, humorous, and kind spirit,” he said. “I met Liam when he was 16 and I was 18; I was immediately impressed by his voice. More importantly, as time went on, I got to know the caring brother I always wished for.”

According to a statement from the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No. 16 in Argentina, Payne’s cause of death was “polytrauma” along with “internal and external hemorrhage.” Authorities are looking into the events surrounding his death, and it was reported that prosecutors think he was alone when he fell.

The One Direction group announced an indefinite hiatus in 2016 after releasing their fifth album, “Made in the A.M.” All members, including Malik, who departed in March 2015, moved on to pursue individual music careers.

“It’s undeniably sad for us. But we’re definitely moving forward. So it’s not goodbye; it’s just ‘See you later’,” Payne told YSL News in 2015 regarding their break. “It’s like what Tigger used to say: ‘Ta-ta for now.’ “
