Introducing the Hunter RMV Sherpa X-Line, a Budget-Friendly Off-Road RV Camper

Since 2015, Hunter RMV has been crafting custom overland expedition off-road camper vehicles with the aim of merging durability with comfort and reasonable pricing for families. These rugged vehicles are known to become quite pricey, ranging between $395,000 to $450,000 as features and capabilities increase. However, the Hunter RMV Sherpa overlanding camper truck offers a more budget-friendly alternative. But what does it offer, and how much does “affordable” really mean in this context?

The brand-new Sherpa line was introduced at the most recent Overland West Expo in May and is available in three trims: X, XL, and XLE. Depending on preferences and availability, the Sherpa camper box can be fitted to several chassis options, including Acela/LMTV, Kodiak trucks, Mitsubishi Fuso, or Isuzu FTR.

The entry-level Sherpa X trim features a 14.5-inch camper box equipped with an electric exterior awning, a tailored roof rack, and ceiling fans for extra ventilation. It also comes with a home AC system, diesel heating, off-road lights, and a solar energy setup with a minimum of 700 watts linked to an 800 amp-hour lithium battery and a 3,000-watt, 30-amp Victron inverter for DC charging, along with a backup Honda Eu2200i generator, 85 gallons of fresh water, and 35 gallons of grey water storage.

The Sherpa X trim also includes a complete kitchen, a full dry bath with a separate outdoor shower, a cassette toilet, a washer and dryer, and an electric lift bed that accommodates two people, with additional sleeping space for two more on a convertible table beneath. For entertainment, there’s a TV and audio system, along with a “surround camera system” for enhanced security. All of this comes at a price of approximately $175,000.

By upgrading to the Sherpa XE trim (the “E” stands for “Expedition”), you can access a larger 18-foot camper box. Enhancements include a bigger bathroom with a separate shower area, better cooling capabilities (suitably larger), increased solar and water storage options (depending on the chosen vehicle chassis), enhanced off-road and under-box lighting, customized step fairings for easier access, a tailored cab fairing, and a pass-thru to the vehicle cabin, which is not available on the smaller Sherpa X trim. This version also comes with sand ladders and a mounted recovery winch, starting at a price of at least $205,000.

Lastly, the premium Sherpa XLE trim starts at a hefty $295,000. It offers the choice between an 18-foot box or a larger 22-foot version, which includes a four-foot garage area suitable for a motorcycle or extra storage, requiring the larger Acela/LMTV 6×6 chassis.
